The Branch Banking House/African American Museum
The Branch Banking House in Woodville was completed in 1819 as a branch of the Bank of the State of Mississippi. It is the oldest banking edifice in Mississippi and was an integral part of the state’s economic activity in its formative years. The early Federal style building features an exceptionally detailed interior which includes the original vault. The vault was fabricated by a Natchez blacksmith; a Natchez bricklayer contracted to lay the brick at a cost of $4.00 per thousand. Currently, the building houses the African-American Museum.
